Endocrinology

Endocrinology is the specialty of Internal Medicine which deals with over and underproduction of hormones - substances produced in one gland that work in other areas of the body.

The best known disease of this type is Diabetes Mellitus - a deficiency in insulin. We deal with intensive diabetes control, insulin pumps, and diabetic pregnancies. Other Endocrinology diseases involve the thyroid - both under and over-active, as well as growths in the thyroid; Calcium problems, such as osteoporosis and kidney stones, and parathyroid abnormalities are included, as well as difficulties with excess cholesterol levels, and problems with hair growth. There are many others as well.
